Starting in October 2026, we will host a monthly seminar series in Utrecht, focused on quantitative economic, financial and business history.

A group of scholars gathered around a seminar table in a library, with the Utrecht Dom tower visible through the windows

The aim is to provide a platform for constructive but deep discussion of the econom(etr)ic methods applied to historical data, based on a keen knowledge of the historical contexts that produced the data and that inform the identification strategies used. In short, we are looking for:

Historically informed economics, and economically informed historical research.

The seminars will take place on the last Monday of the month, at 13.00-14.15 in Utrecht. Presenters should aim for an hour long presentation with questions asked during the presentation. Sessions take place in Utrecht city centre, within walking distance of Utrecht Centraal railway station.

We welcome presentations on any topic in economic, financial and business history, as well as in related fields, such as applied economics, economic geography, and political sciences, provided they use historical data and high-quality econometric analysis. Presentations should be full-paper length but can be relatively early stage. Papers will not be circulated in advance.
